Mold Information

Mold is a type of fungus that travels through the air in the form of a spore. These mold spores seek matter that needs to be decomposed. Most often found in a natural habitat, you can see mold working to decompose organic materials, such as tree branches, leaves, decaying fruit, or dead and decaying animals. It breaks down the dead matter and recycles it into the ground.

Mold reactions vary from person to person, and while the majority do not experience any symptoms, there is a small percentage that might feel allergy-like symptoms. A runny nose, nasal congestion, irritated eyes, coughing, and sneezing are all common symptoms most people with minor reactions will feel. More severe cases of allergic reactions might cause a rash, hives, or a a fungal infection in the lungs. In this case, medication would have to be taken to treat this infection.

If your home is prone to growing mold, find out what is causing it. Find the source or the main reason this mold is growing and stop it. In most cases, homes just do not have adequate airflow. Accumulation of moisture leads to a humid house, which is a perfect breeding ground for mold to grow on. All the mold spore needs to grow is a warm, moist spot, and you will have a big mold problem in no time. Rooms of the house that are more susceptible to mold infection are the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, garage, and basement. However, it is not unheard of mold growing in your own bedroom, living room, or some other room of the house that does not seem like a suitable place for mold to grow.
